POETRY OF NATURE

My collection is inspired by Taoism philosophy of ‘the ultimate ways lies in the nature’ and the esthetic language of it—naturalness and simplicity. To translate it into a jewellery context, I develope paperwood as material as it demonstrates the pattern of wood grain and intangible poetic landscapes after shaping and carving. With paperwood, simple, natural form is created with clean flowing lines, showing the beauty of nature. Also paper are dyed in soft colours in different shades to create the peaceful gradual change, reflecting Taoism’s ideas that human can embrace the tranquility when they are intimate with nature.

In my final collection, I mainly use rope to play with the line and knots. The inspiration of my collection is from Japanese Bondage. Japanese bondage involves the interaction between ropes and knots on body to emphasis the body shape of female.

2. Textile Futures

Lucie Libotte

Dust Matters
She collected dust samples from different domestic home in London. After observed the components of the dust, she made experiments of using dust as glaze for ceramic. The picture above is one of the final effect after firing.

Through this project, she wants to re-evaluate the dust in our daily life, showing that how it reflects the trace of our life other than just a dirt.
Personally, I can never imagine that dust can be used as glaze, though it is not difficult to understand. Part of the dust is sand blowed from outside to our home, which means it has silicon. And many glazes have silicon which will form a glass-like layer on the clay body after firing.

Not only this work, others in this major worked with unusual materials as well. I think that is how new things being discovered and developed, starting from crazy ideas.

Material Illusions

Her project is about simulating nature textures by using synthetic materials. And these materials she used were waster of the man-made in our urban life. In a way, the approach of this work could be seen as a preparation as well as a alarm for our future when we are run out of raw materials.
