Interim Show Work - 1

This is the work I made for the 2014 Interim Show. Photos here show the second day after I reset the tank.

Plants have been trimmed and replanted. They are in good condition, compared to before.

I don't know how long can these ceramic stay in this nice and clean condition. One thing I can make sure is that it is easier to clean them if they have been glazed. 

Before, I even thought they can look good after algae grew on them. Now I am not so sure,  considering the look of the previous work in the water. That piece is also white porcelain, without glaze, and it turned into strange brown after several months living in the tank.

So either the algae in this tank doesn't have nice colour or the colour of the work couldn't go with it. I should try other colours next time, making some that is not in white-based hue.

I like their current looking.

Though I played too safe again. At this stage I didn't make a complete design and finished work that these test pieces are the only one I can show.

Coloured slip casting test 3 - final effects

Here are some final effects of the test.  I am happy with the pattern and the furnish of them.  However, there are some problems existing. The core problem is that I am too careful about the project. The forms I used to make modes were not ideal. I was afraid that I would fail and damage the good one during making modes, so I used some else to do a test first. But afterward, I didn't mode the good one. I need to forbid this happening again.

Inspired by costume 2 - Clouds & rain drops

Here is another piece of work in this series. 

Here is the draft. The shape of this work is inspired by the pattern and the waving fabric in his costume design. I absorbed these elements and made changes. As to the colour, I chose more rainbow-like, dreamland feeling colour. That is the fantasy I want to create.

Now the work was fired to 1220℃. 

The cobalt is blue, but is too dark for me. The rest of colour looks fine, however I applied too thick that there are some uneven fragments on the clay body. These fragments are easy to be teared off that I don't think this work can be put into water straight away.

I am planning to apply a layer of semi-opaque white glaze on the part of the work, in order to achieve a blur feeling. Actually I should biscuit fire it first, and then apply the glaze. At the beginning, we were told the ceramic studio was going to close in one week, so I don't have enough time to fire twice. That is why I fire it to 1220, cause I want to have a look of the colour after firing. Then they extended the opening time, so I can fire again with glaze on it.
